Mathias Wasik is a photographer whose work presents an insightful view into the daily life of contemporary urban environments. His photography uncovers the contrasting aspects of city life, revealing both its polished facade and its more obscure, grittier sides. Mathias approaches photography with a documentary eye, seeking scenes that feel both intimate and universal.
Mathias has photographed extensively on the streets of New York and internationally. His work has appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The Guardian, National Geographic, and NPR, and has been exhibited at festivals and galleries in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Alongside his editorial practice, he has completed commercial assignments and licensing work for clients across fashion, entertainment, travel, and real estate, including Chanel, the New York City Marathon, Airbnb, JetBlue, and others. He remains deeply engaged in photographic communities, regularly teaching, mentoring, and serving as a judge for international street photography festivals.
Mathias is on the Board of Directors of the NYC Street Photography Collective (NYC-SPC), a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the understanding and appreciation of contemporary street photography.
As of March 2026, Mathias Wasik serves as a Ricoh Imaging Ambassador for the Ricoh GR series. Having photographed extensively with GR cameras for nearly a decade, he brings a long-standing, practice-driven relationship with the system to the role. His work with the GR reflects his commitment to attentive, immersive street photography – carrying a compact camera that allows him to remain present, responsive, and closely connected to the unfolding life of the city.
